The third-largest island in the Mediterranean, Cyprus lies off the southern coast of Turkey and the western shore of Syria. Cyprus is a major tourist destination in the Mediterranean. The Republic of Cyprus is an advanced, high-income economy with a very high Human Development Index. It was a founding member of the Non-Aligned Movement until it joined the European Union on 1 May 2004.

Climate

The summers can be very hot, though temperatures tend to be more moderate overall and range from 75 degrees F on average at the coast to about 57 degrees F. The hottest temperatures can reach 95 degrees F during the summer months. Nevertheless, the climate remains mostly moderate throughout the year.

Society
Cypress is often a jewel of the Mediterranean because of its rich history and many of the locals cherish this. You will find beautiful architecture and old buildings that often are symbolic of the way people lived here thousands of years ago. However, the country is stable economically and a vibrant part of the European Union. It has some of the most modern beach resorts in the region and many of its cities are very westernized in terms of amenities and overall lifestyle. With 300 days of sunlight and more than 2.5 million tourists, it can also be a very busy lifestyle with a strong nightlife.
